Summary

We’re looking for a new Welcome and Service Assistant to join us at the central house and garden 'hub' area at Dyrham Park. Being a Welcome and Service Assistant for the National Trust is all about people – connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit.

Salary: £8078.16 / £11.64 per hour

Contract/duration: Fixed-term contract until 28 February 2026

Hours/working pattern: Usually 2 days per week and 1.5 weekends in 3.

Shifts are usually 7 hours per day 9.45am-5.15pm (mid-February-October), 6 hours per day 9.45am-4.15pm(November-February).

The normal working pattern is on average 2 days a week across Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with more days per week during local school holidays. This is an annualised hours contract, meaning the number of hours per week changes depending on season and property need, and pay is given in equal instalments across the contract. The working pattern includes working 1.5 weekends in 3 which means working a full weekend, a Saturday OR Sunday, and then having a full weekend off.

What it's like to work here

Reporting to a Senior Visitor Experience Officer, you’ll be part of a large visitor experience team taking care of welcome, admissions, programming, and daily visitor operations across several National Trust properties within the Bath Portfolio (Dyrham Park, Prior Park Landscape Garden, Bath Skyline, Bathampton Meadows). You'll work back to back with another Welcome and Service Assistant, alternating Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

You'll be based at Dyrham Park and be the daily operational lead for the Visitor Experience team each day. You’ll provide a warm, friendly welcome, give information about the property, answer questions and make sure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable visit. You'll ensure visitor areas and facilities are open, presentable, well-stocked and easy for visitors to access. You'll may help support the delivery of seasonal programming, making sure visitors can easily enjoy these experiences. You'll also work alongside and supervise our volunteer teams who help with day to day visitor experience delivery including welcome hosts, bus drivers, and bookshop assistants.

What you'll be doing

Day to day, you’ll deliver a great all-round customer service experience. You’ll be on hand answering queries and listen to what our visitors need so you can share the right information. Your role is to make sure our visitors have the best day they can.  You’ll have the chance to be involved in different aspects of the visitor experience, from welcoming visitors to the hub to making sure there is adequate toilet roll in the facilities - no two days are the same.
