Tradewind Recruitment are working closely with a secondary pupil referral unit (PRU) in the Chorley area who require a Level 3 teaching assistant to support the learning of students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) on a 1:1 basis.

The school provide an educational setting for pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education, and offer a nurturing and restorative environment to rehabilitate students and improve behaviour and learning.

The successful applicant for this teaching assistant role will be working closely with Year 11 students who demonstrate challenging behaviour, and often require small group and 1:1 support to keep them engaged. The students also struggles with anxiety and mental heath issues and therefore require a dynamic and positive role model to promote engagement and learning.

The pay for this work will be £90- £95 per day dependant upon experience - and this will be paid directly via PAYE by our amazing on-site payroll team, without the need for signing up with a third party umbrella company.

The position will commence as soon as possible, and will last for the entire 2024/25 academic year, with a permanent position becoming available for the right candidate.

Requirements for this PRU teaching assistant role in Chorley include:

  • A passion for working with children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and a desire to contribute to their development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, in particular on a 1:1 basis with KS4 students.
  • Ability to strike up rapport and establish a positive relationship with disengaged students
  • Relevant experience in a special educational needs or care setting supporting children with behavioural difficulties.
  • Level 3 or 4 teaching assistant qualification is highly desirable, but transferable skills and experience supporting SEMH and challenging behaviour are acceptable
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

In order to register with Tradewind to work as a PRU teaching assistant in Chorley, you will need to:

  • Be subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure - or hold a DBS currently subscribed to DBS Update Service.
  • Provide overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and undergo professional reference checks.
  • Ensure your CV covers all employment and education since leaving secondary school.
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK.
