We are recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work on either a permanent basis, or long term contract outside IR35, in the Chorley area.
Our client is seeking Senior Mechanical Engineers (or Principal Mechanical Engineers/Lead Mechanical Engineers) from a nuclear or defence background.
Pay/Benefits:
The role is working a 4 day working week from Monday to Thursday (with Friday, Saturday and Sunday as weekend).
For the permanent Mechanical Engineers:
(phone number removed) (depending on level of experience)per annum plus 25 days' holiday and bank holidays, pension, healthcare and death in service.
For the contract Mechanical Engineers:
51-61 Ltd (Outside IR35) or Umbrella/PAYE equivalent.
Duties/Experience for the Senior Mechanical Engineer role:
- Execute engineering tasks within allocated budgets and timelines, promptly identifying deviations from the agreed project baseline in terms of scope, cost, or schedule.
- Assist the Lead Engineer in tracking the progress of engineering activities and projecting their completion timelines.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed 3D models and drawings, ensuring design considerations address operational, maintenance, manufacturing, construction, and installation requirements.
- Integrate safety principles, including both conventional and nuclear safety, into the design process to ensure robust engineering solutions.
- Create design risk assessments to identify potential hazards across the product lifecycle and propose effective mitigation strategies to address these risks.
- Perform preliminary calculations to support the early stages of design development, with subsequent validation by specialist Stress Engineers.
- Collaborate closely with Stress Engineers to define analytical requirements and loading scenarios for verifying design integrity.
- Generate detailed documentation and drawings to support the lifecycle development and validation of engineering solutions.
- Establish and manage the physical, functional, and performance interfaces between engineering components, ensuring effective communication and control of interdependencies.
- Design and develop mock-ups, prototypes, and testing rigs to verify and refine engineering solutions.
- Prepare technical documentation to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards
- Ensure adherence to configuration management practices to effectively control 3D models, drawings, and associated documentation.
- Promote cost-efficiency through value engineering and remain informed about emerging technologies and their potential application to ongoing and future projects.
