Senior Structural Engineer

A multi-office Civil and Structural Consultancy are looking to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer with at least 7+ years' design experience to their head office in Chorley.


The company are one of the best-known consultancies in the Lancashire area and are going through a growth phase, including the significant addition of a brand new Merseyside office in the past 12 months.

The Senior Structural Engineer will act as a key leader within the team, providing technical expertise, leadership, and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians. This role requires delivering high-quality structural designs while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Technical Responsibilities include:

  • Lead structural engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring successful delivery.
  • Develop innovative and efficient designs using materials such as concrete, steel, timber, masonry, and associated geotechnical solutions (foundations, soils, and drainage).
  • Produce accurate and high-quality designs, calculations, drawings, and technical reports that meet project requirements and are readily verifiable.
  • Apply Eurocodes, British Standards, and current Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) regulations in all design work.
  • Conduct thorough site investigations and inspections, addressing and resolving any structural issues promptly.
  • Represent the company professionally at design team meetings and client reviews.

Key Qualifications and Experience include:

  • Chartered Membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) and/or the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) (preferred).
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Proven experience delivering structural engineering projects, particularly within the defence and nuclear sectors.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with a track record of team and project management success.



Software capabilities include:

  • Proficient in 3D structural analysis and design software, ideally including:
  • MasterSeries, SCIA, Tekla Structural Designer
  • AutoCAD and Revit
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques and software (preferred).
  • Familiarity with industry-standard tools to streamline design and documentation workflows.
