An Ofsted-rated "Good" special needs school in the Chorley area are seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to start with them in September 2024.

The school provides amazing support for pupils aged 2 - 19, for pupils with a wide range of needs, which include: autism spectrum disorder, complex medical needs, physical disabilities, PMLD, SLCN, SLD and sensory impairment (HI, VI).

As part of this SEN Teaching Assistant role, the school offer fantastic facilities to cater for these additional needs, including hydrotherapy pool, multi-sensory rooms, moveable plasma screens and immersive interactive theatre.

The headteacher is looking for candidates who are pro-active, communicative, and either have previous SEN school experience, or transferable experience from supporting people with SEND in a carer/ support worker capacity.

As part of this full-time SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will attend to pupils' significant personal needs, including moving and handling, personal care and postural management. The successful candidate will also provide advice to assist in their social, health and hygiene well-being, as well as:

  • Assisting with the implementation of individual education plans
  • Supporting pupils with their learning and personal care needs
  • Promoting independence and inclusion within the school community
  • Collaborating with the teaching team to create engaging and inclusive lessons
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress

  • Experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs
  • Strong understanding of the individual needs associated with MLD, SLD, ASD, sensory impairments, and physical disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children's development.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE Level 2, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks.
  • CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
