What the role Involves:
The Despatch Manager is responsible for managing the inbound and outbound logistics processes. This includes overseeing the receipt, inspection, storage, inventory control, and despatch of goods to and from the warehouse. The manager ensures efficient operations, maintains accurate inventory records, and supervises the team responsible for both goods-in and goods-out functions.
- Oversee the receipt of goods into the warehouse, ensuring they match the purchase orders and invoices.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to resolve discrepancies in shipments.
- Organise proper storage of goods in the warehouse, ensuring they are accessible and stored according to safety guidelines.
- Manage inventory levels and ensure goods are allocated to the correct locations.
- Oversee the picking, packing, and dispatching of orders to customers.
- Coordinate with the sales or customer service team to ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure goods are properly labelled, packed, and shipped according to client specifications.
- Monitor outbound logistics to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all incoming and outgoing goods.
- Perform regular stock audits and cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of inventory.
- Manage inventory turnover, minimising overstocking and understocking situations.
- Implement strategies to reduce loss, damage, or theft of goods in the warehouse.
- Supervise and lead the warehouse team responsible for goods in and goods out processes.
- Provide training, support, and performance evaluations for team members.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient working environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the warehouse adheres to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Enforce safe handling, storage, and dispatching practices to prevent accidents or damage to goods.
- Regularly assess warehouse conditions and make improvements to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate records of all goods received, stored, and dispatched.
- Generate and analyse reports on inventory levels, stock movements, and order fulfilment.
- Report on key performance metrics (e.g., order accuracy, delivery times, stock turnover rates).
Key Skills required
- Proven experience in warehouse management, logistics, or supply chain operations.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management systems and warehouse technologies.
- Leadership and team management skills with experience in supervising staff.
- Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to warehouse operations.
