Are you a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant with a background in Special Educational Needs (SEN) and behaviour support? A local mainstream primary school in Christchurch is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support a class that has a high percentage of pupils who have additional and complex learning and behavioural needs.


About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with diverse learning needs. An important part of this role will be planning and delivering small group interventions for children who require tailored provision both in and out of the classroom. The perfect candidate for this role will be proactive and confident in their ability to support and manage behaviour, as well as helping promote pupil engagement with academic learning. The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos, and therefore it is important that all pupils feel supported and cared for, where their behaviour and learning are nurtured by a strong staff team. Prior knowledge, understanding, and experience working with children with autism and ADHD will be beneficial, as will any behaviour management training for complex behavioural needs.

Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant with SEN Experience:

  • Provide individualised support and guidance to students, promoting their academic and personal development
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external professionals to create comprehensive support plans for pupils with SEN, including autism and ADHD
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and carers, promoting effective communication and collaboration
  • Being proactive and adaptable, considering the needs of the individual and tailoring support and strategies accordingly

Requirements of the Teaching Assistant with SEN Experience:

  • Previous experience working with students with SEN
  • Strong understanding of different SEN and effective strategies for supporting students, including behaviour management strategies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers
  • Dedication to promoting inclusion and equality in education
