The Burford Recruitment Company is pleased to be working on behalf of our client to find an experienced and proactive Bookkeeper to join their small, professional team on a temporary basis. This role needs to be filled immediately, and our client is looking for someone who can hit the ground running. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the smooth financial management of the business, ensuring operations continue to run efficiently in a rural setting.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly invoices from submitted time records.
  • Liaising with fee-earning staff to finalise invoices and ensure timely issuance.
  • Maintaining accurate income and expenditure records using Xero.
  • Reconciling bank accounts regularly.
  • Submitting VAT returns to HMRC on time.
  • Managing payroll processes, including tax codes, NICs, and Smart Pension contributions.
  • Issuing payslips and P60s.
  • Ensuring returns to Companies House are completed accurately and on time.
  • Collaborating with Tax Accountants to maintain up-to-date records and provide necessary information.
  • Chasing outstanding debts, including by phone and via other debt collection methods.
  • Assisting with tasks related to professional indemnity insurance and other financial matters.

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of Xero, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to solve problems with a positive, can-do attitude. Our client is seeking someone comfortable working in a small, rural office environment.
