Pertemps Bristol Industrial are currently hiring for a Lead Engineer ( Mechanical Design ) for one of our clients based in Clevedon, BS21. This role plays a key part in delivering top-notch mechanical engineering solutions for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. As the Lead Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing systems that meet environmental and safety standards, making sure everything is compliant, safe, and efficient. You’ll also assist leading a team of several engineers through the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept to commissioning, while working closely with both internal and external teams to ensure the project is a success. Main Responsibilities
  • Lead Mechanical Engineering Projects: Own the technical delivery of mechanical engineering solutions for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including subsystems and technology developments. 
  • Team Leadership and Mentoring: Lead and guide a team of around 6 mechanical engineers, ensuring the effective execution of tasks across multiple projects. Provide expert guidance to develop a skilled engineering team and support them through the process.
  • Best Practices Advocacy: Advocate for and lead the adoption of best practice mechanical engineering to improve time, cost, quality, and compliance in project delivery. 
  • Work Package Management: Design and allocate work packages, managing the project through milestones to volume production. 
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all mechanical engineering work meets product, stakeholder, and regulatory requirements by design. 
  • Progression: Develop expertise in key areas of mechanical engineering for semiconductor equipment, progressing towards a Principal Engineer role. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (essential) 
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering (desirable ) 
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration with a recognised engineering institution 
  • Functional Safety Certifications (desirable). 
Experience
  • Mechanical engineering experience in a relevant industry (essential). 
  • Experience working in a regulated, compliance-driven environment such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment (desirable). 
  • Knowledge of relevant standards: EN 61511, SEMI S2, SEMI S10, HAZOP, FMEA, PHA  
  • Experience of working with design-for-X principles (manufacture, cost, maintainability, etc.)  
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment and system integration (desirable). 
  • Practical understanding of abatement and exhaust management (desirable). 
Skills
  • Strong technical expertise in mechanical design and engineering practices
  • Leadership and mentoring skills, with a proven track record of guiding and developing engineering teams. 
  • Ability to manage complex projects, ensure compliance, and communicate technical concepts clearly to cross-functional teams. 
  • Problem-solving abilities with a calm, professional approach to handling challenges. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, in English. 
  • Ability to check and release engineering drawings to BS8888, as well as P&ID review
  • Influencing skills across different levels of the organisation (desirable).
