Job Title: Surfacing Foreman
Location: Fife
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Due to continued company growth and the recent award of several long-term framework contracts, our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Surfacing Foreman to join their team on a permanent basis.

The role involves working on a variety of projects including road plaining, carriageway and footpath reconstruction, kerbing, street works, and the preparation of surfaces for resurfacing works.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, motivate and supervise a team of operatives and site personnel.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct site inductions and deliver daily briefings.
  • Monitor and control costs by delivering works in line with the agreed programme and contract specifications.
  • Ensure materials are laid to the correct depths, levels and specifications.
  • Maintain high standards of quality with accurate completion of all site documentation, including daily records, dip sheets, traffic management logs, plant inspections and defect reports.
  • Plan and schedule site activities; assist in developing work programmes and manage material orders.
  • Raise technical queries, early warnings and compensation events as required.
  • Keep comprehensive records of all site activities and materials used.
  • Identify training needs and promote the development of team members, supporting succession planning.
  • Assist in recruitment to build and maintain a consistent, skilled workforce.
  • Ensure all plant is parked securely on site and promptly report any damage or defects.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by management.

 

Key Skills & Requirements

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and work independently.
  • Strong understanding of plant operation and maintenance.
  • Extensive experience in asphalt surfacing and groundwork/civils.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Competence in setting levels and quantifying materials.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality work.

 Essential Qualifications

  • Full, valid UK driving licence.
  • CSCS card.
  • CPCS or NPORS certification.
