SEMH Learning Support Assistant
Location: Leicester (LE67)
Contract: Long-term to permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am- 4:30pm
Start Date: 28th April onwards
Preferred Experience: Working with young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. A background in outdoor education, coaching, or therapeutic support is beneficial but not essential.

Long Term Futures is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH school catering to students aged 6-17 with SEMH, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and additional learning needs. This nurturing and inclusive school takes a holistic and therapeutic approach, incorporating outdoor learning, sports, and practical skills to help students succeed academically and personally.

Key Duties:

  • Deliver individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring they feel engaged and valued.
  • Help students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social interaction through tailored interventions.
  • Assist with the school's enrichment programmes, including outdoor learning and practical activities, to enhance student engagement.
  • Build confidence and resilience in students through positive reinforcement and structured learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to maintain a structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Use trauma-informed and therapeutic techniques to support students with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting young people in an SEMH, SEN, PRU, or alternative education setting.
  • Background in youth mentoring, education, or behaviour support, particularly with students who present challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to build trusting and meaningful relationships with students who have experienced adversity or disrupted education.
  • A patient, adaptable, and proactive mindset when working with students who require structured and consistent guidance.
  • Experience in sports, outdoor learning, or vocational training is a plus but not essential.
