As the Commercial Director for the UK operations of an internationally owned hospitality business , you will provide strategic leadership across governance, company secretariat, compliance, financial reporting, and all commercial operations. You will ensure regulatory adherence to include co sec matters, HR related matters, be involved in corporate transactions, running existing businesses and work closely with the accountants regarding all things finance related.

The role involves leading the UK team across multiple businesses to ensure that success aligns with international business objectives. You will oversee company secretarial functions, statutory filings, and regulatory compliance with HMRC and Companies House. Reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, specifically for new corporate transactions, will be a key aspect of the role, working closely with lawyers where appropriate to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.

  This position will also include company secretarial duties and oversight of HR matters, ensuring that policies, procedures, and employment regulations, including international employment mobility and sponsorship licences, are effectively implemented and maintained across the UK team.

  You will work closely with the UK accountants in the production of the annual financial statements and annual audit. Additionally, you will play a key role in overseeing the purchase of other businesses or assets within the UK group, working with lawyers and accountants to ensure smooth acquisitions and integration.

Supporting the International Board, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team with governance, compliance, and commercial decision-making will be a core responsibility. This will include company secretarial duties, risk management, staff management, and existing asset management.

The role also includes overseeing the management of the UK team, with employees based in London as well as those working remotely across the UK.

  This position will involve contributing to new business opportunities within the hospitality sector. You will maintain strong supplier relationships and oversee key commercial negotiations. Regulatory and industry compliance will be essential, ensuring all UK operations adhere to corporate governance frameworks, industry regulations, and internal policies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate governance, company secretarial work, legal, or accountancy. Relevant UK qualifications include:  

  • Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland (CGIUKI) qualification for company secretarial and governance professionals (GradCG/ACG/FCG)
  • Solicitor (qualified in England & Wales) with relevant commercial law experience
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) for financial and corporate reporting  

A legal or regulatory background is advantageous but not essential. The ability to engage at Board level and navigate complex international and UK relationships and compliance is key.  

The salary for this role is broad, depending on experience, and is expected to be in the range of £75,000 to £100,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits include remote working, ad hoc travel to London to meet team members, and occasional international travel as required.
