Food and Beverage Manager - Award Winning Landscape Garden

The Charity
Painshill is a beautiful award-winning 18th century landscape garden which was created between 1738 and 1773 by the Hon Charles Hamilton. The 160 acre garden receives circa 200,000 visitors a year and operates commercial functions including retail, catering, filming and events to support our visitor offer.
The Role
Set within the picturesque landscape, the Tea Room plays a key part in Painshills commercial operation and is open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The F&B Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Painshills food and beverage operations. With strong leadership and team management skills, the F&B Manager is responsible for Painshills front and back of house staff to deliver an efficient, customer focussed service.
Confident, friendly and self-motivated, the post holder must be able to work well under pressure and be a strong team player, having previously undertaken a similar role. They will carry out a variety of duties, whilst striving to continuously improve the operational effectiveness of the Tea Room, enhancing productivity and service, managing stock and spend to achieve a high level of financial return. The Tea Room is an integral part of Painshills visitor experience and the F&B Manager must ensure that front and back of house staff deliver a high standard of customer service to all visitors and volunteers at all times.

Painshill Park, Cobham, Surrey KT11 1JE. Due to Painshills location, own transport is recommended
Remuneration, Contract Type & Working days/hours
£33,500 FTE
Permanent Full Time, subject to references and a three month probationary period
Full Time Monday to Sunday, 5 days out of 7 with weekend and occasional evening work as required by the Tea Room rota. 40 hours/week; 8 hours/day FTE with one half hour unpaid break
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Responsible for the running of the Tea Room in an efficient and effective manner to deliver a high financial return
Manage the catering function in a diverse environment (Tea Room, Function room and across catering outlets in the Landscape)
Manage and motivate a diverse team working both front and back of house
Manage the service levels of the front of house team including staff rotas and training where required
Assist with on and off-boarding of staff with the support of HR
Check and sign off staff timesheets monthly, submitting them to the Head of Finance to upload to payroll in a timely manner
Manage stock, including stock rotation and stock taking
Monitor stock levels and manage ordering, minimizing waste and maximizing profit
Oversee the financial and budgeting records with the Head of Visitor and Commercial Operations
Liaise and negotiate with suppliers to agree competitive prices
Monitor the quality of produce and service provided, including checking deliveries for quality and correctness
Maintain training, maintenance and COSH records
Ensure the Chefs are maintaining records of temperatures and daily logs
Ensure a high standard of cleanliness in all areas of the Kitchen, store room and front of house, including the outside area
Maintaining and overseeing the cleaning rosters for all areas
Quality control on all dishes served
Strong time management, with a willingness to work flexible hours including regular weekend working
Ensure good relationships and a high standard of customer service to all visitors, staff and volunteers at all times
Qualifications
Food Safety Hygiene Certificate (Level 1) - essential
Food Safety Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) desirable, not essential (training will be provided)
Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate; desirable but not essential (training will be provided)
Experience, Skills and Personal Attributes
Experience of managing a commercial catering operation
Customer service experience
Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
Professional outlook and high standard of personal hygiene and appearance
Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a team and a varied and demanding workload
Knowledge of food and food preparation
Knowledge of food safety standards
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritising and multi task as required
Positive team player with a friendly outlook
Experience of financial management and budget controls
Deliver consistently high service levels
