Accounts Assistant

Join a fast-growing, award-winning boatyard as an Accounts Assistant. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to become a key member of our Accounts team, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. With nearly 50 years of excellence, our company is renowned within the leisure marine industry and is committed to maintaining its vision as the best small boatyard in the UK.

Day-to-day of the role:

Daily

  • Reconcile bank accounts.

Weekly

  • Record all boat sales and purchases.
  • Reconcile and post weekly takings.
  • Order stationary and supplies for workshop and yard areas.

Monthly

  • Reconcile petty cash and record holidays and absence.
  • Assist with monthly payroll and the Company pension scheme (NEST).
  • Maintain stock list and manage depreciation.
  • Assist with Fixed Asset record maintenance.
  • Assist with reconciliation of prepayments, accruals, financial statements, and posting monthly journals.

Quarterly

  • Assist with VAT returns.

Annually

  • Record annual stock take figures for year-end.
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end accounts for external audit and statutory accounts preparation.

Purchase Ledger

  • Post all purchase invoices.
  • Assist with payment of suppliers and reconcile supplier statements.

Sales Ledger

  • Raise invoices for moorings, storage, workshop, and Chandlery monthly accounts.
  • Send monthly statements and manage credit control.
  • Assist with electric readings and invoicing.

Moorings and Storage

  • Handle bookings for moorings and storage.
  • Communicate with the yard team regarding bookings and changes.
  • Manage customer queries and payments both face-to-face and over the telephone.
  • Maintain the pontoon mooring map and customer electric records.
  • Liaise with transport drivers and customers regarding boat movements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to work to deadlines and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office tools.
  • Experience with Sage 50 is essential.
