Graduate Structural Engineer

I am currently seeking a Graduate Structural Engineer to join a successful and thriving Multidisciplinary Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy based in Colchester. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to take responsibility for structural designs on a range of projects. The ideal candidate will be expected to effectively communicate with colleagues, foster strong working relationships, and consistently deliver high-quality designs.

Your role as a Graduate Structural Engineer include:

  • Develop and present innovative design solutions.
  • Ensure all designs meet environmental, legal, health, and safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver progress reports to senior engineers and clients.
  • Produce calculations and drawings for building control submissions.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, site managers, and clients to ensure project success.
  • Undertake structural calculations, both manually and using computer design software, as directed by senior engineers.
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications and working drawings.
  • Conduct site inspections, as requested by senior engineers, to ensure work aligns with project schedules and designs.
  • Support senior engineers and structural engineering managers in their duties.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the properties and strengths of materials such as steel, timber, and brick, ensuring they are used appropriately.
  • Use structural simulation software to model designs and assess how structures will perform under various conditions.
  • Inspect existing buildings and recommend repairs or demolition, as necessary.
  • Work with contractors to ensure newly constructed structures meet design specifications and are stable.
  • Inspect site work when required.

To be successful in this Graduate Structural Engineering role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A strong passion for structural design.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or REVIT is desirable but not essential.
  • At least 1 year of experience with a consultancy firm.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and email communication skills.
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
