Finance Manager
Location: On-site in Stanway, Colchester
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Salary: 55,000 per annum
Role Overview
The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day financial management and control of the company, ensuring the production of accurate and insightful management information to support decision-making. The role also ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including audit and HMRC obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and robust monthly management accounts, including full commentary, variance analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage short-term (13-week) cash flow forecasting, funding management, and oversee daily banking and CID facility operations.
- Lead the operational aspects of the budgeting process, including consolidating sales and costs, coordinating budget timetables, and preparing P&L, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Act as the principal point of contact for external auditors and corporate tax advisors, managing year-end analysis, working paper preparation, statutory disclosures, and related financial reporting.
- Allocate project codes and conduct cost management analysis.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including uploading purchase invoices, posting credit card and bank transactions, and processing supplier payments.
- Manage sales invoicing, credit control, and debt reporting.
- Ensure a full suite of monthly balance sheet reconciliations to audit standard.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns.
- Complete Office of National Statistics returns.
- Maintain a strong financial control environment, enforcing adherence to financial processes across the business.
Skills & Experience
- Fully qualified ACA/ACCA, with an audit practice background highly advantageous.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, charts, IF functions, and lookups.
- Familiarity with Sage and Zahara is beneficial.
- Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
- Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Strong ability to influence non-finance staff and build solid working relationships, particularly with commercial and production teams.
- Supportive and approachable management style, focused on staff development and driving efficiency and accuracy in financial processes.
- Confident in challenging colleagues in a collaborative and solutions-driven manner.
