Company Overview:Our client, a highly regarded solicitors' firm in Colchester, is seeking a dedicated and experienced 2nd Line Support Engineer to provide comprehensive IT support and guidance. This is a critical, onsite role within a busy legal environment where efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount. The firm prides itself on delivering exceptional client service and maintaining operational excellence, which is reflected in the robust support provided by the IT team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-Day IT Support: Provide 2nd and 3rd line technical support to users across the business, troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues within the firm.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the ongoing health, maintenance, and administration of the firm's IT infrastructure, ensuring uptime, reliability, and efficiency.
  • System Upgrades & Projects: Lead and participate in IT projects, including software updates, hardware installations, and systems migrations.
  • Vendor Management: Liaise with third-party vendors and service providers, ensuring smooth delivery of IT services and managing hardware/software purchases.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Manage backup processes and ensure that disaster recovery plans are in place and tested regularly.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all IT processes and systems comply with relevant data protection regulations (such as GDPR) and legal sector requirements.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience in supporting Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10, Active Directory, Exchange, and network troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, etc.).
  • Experience in a Legal Environment (preferred): Familiarity with legal-specific applications such as case management systems, document management solutions, and time recording software would be advantageous.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Proven experience in a senior support role, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues promptly and effectively.
  • Project Management: Experience leading IT projects, from system upgrades to the deployment of new technologies.
  • Security Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in cybersecurity, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, encryption, and remote access security.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with legal professionals, IT staff, and external providers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (preferred).
  • Professional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT support roles, with at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
