Our Client are a renowned local Locksmith and Security Business based in the heart of Colchester. Being established for over 40 years, they are proud of their history and values and are seeking a reliable, proactive individual to join them as their new Shop Manager.

The role of Shop Manager is to oversee daily operations of their retail environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. This role requires effective communication, time management, and the ability to manage a team while driving sales performance. A security background is advantageous but not essential (as training will be given). Selling, supplying and troubleshooting retail security systems on a daily basis (training will be given). Also a keen ability to learn and service mechanical locks will be an advantage, but training will be given.

Duties (include but are not limited to)

  • Manage day-to-day shop operations, ensuring a smooth workflow and high standards of service.
  • Working both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Answering phone calls, walk-in customers and emails.
  • Organising the online work diary.
  • Locksmithing (training given).
  • Entering details into the back-office system.
  • Cross-sell to clients and encourage Engineers to identify and seize sales opportunities whilst and maintain excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee inventory management, including stock control and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Implement effective strategies to maximise revenue and promote products through sales.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
  • Maintain an organised administrative system for records, reports, and schedules.
  • Foster a positive working environment that encourages teamwork and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the shop.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience as a Shop Manager, Retail Manager, Store Manager, or similar in a retail environment is beneficial but not essential.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective time management skills to prioritise tasks efficiently.
  • Administrative proficiency with experience in managing records and reports.
  • Multilingual abilities are highly desirable to cater to a diverse customer base.
  • Background in sales is preferred, with a track record of achieving targets (not essential).
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong organisational skills.
