Job Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant to work closely with the Class Teacher, supporting students with autism in their educational journey. This role requires a proactive approach, the ability to adapt to various needs of the students, and a deep understanding of autism.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Class Teacher in preparing lessons and contributing to the development and execution of schemes of work and IEP's.

Maintain an up-to-date understanding of each student’s development stage in areas such as assessment, communication, IEPs, and management programs.

Support educational visits and activities, including planning and supervising students in line with school policies.

Participate in a wide range of physical activities with students such as swimming, ice skating, and horse riding.

Provide individual and small group support to students during class, lunch breaks, and other activities.

Help students complete tasks by simplifying instructions and presenting information in a way that meets their individual needs.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and activities.

Ensure the safety of students at all times, especially in challenging or unpredictable situations.

Assist in preparing students for arrival and departure from school.

Help maintain a tidy and safe classroom and shared facilities.

Carry out playground and other supervisory duties in line with school policy.

Support the personal hygiene needs of students.

Mentor and support new staff in the classroom to ensure smooth classroom operations.

Build and maintain strong relationships with parents/carers and external agencies, always demonstrating professional integrity.
Essential Requirements:

NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.

GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above).

Relevant experience working with students with autism or learning disabilities in an educational setting.

Knowledge of ASD and best practices for supporting students with special educational needs.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Driving license desirable.
Desirable Skills:
-
Experience in Team Teach or similar behaviour management techniques.

Education to A-Level standard (or equivalent).

First Aid qualifications.
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
