Role OverviewWe are seeking a compassionate and committed Class Teacher to join our team. You will work with students across a range of ages and abilities, delivering a broad curriculum tailored to the specific needs of children with autism. As a Class Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and engaging learning environment that supports each child’s unique learning journey.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that cater to the needs of students with autism.
- Use autism-friendly teaching strategies, such as structured routines, visual aids, and sensory support.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including support staff, therapists, and parents, to create and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback and adapting your teaching approaches as necessary.
- Foster a calm, inclusive classroom environment that minimises anxiety and promotes positive behaviour.
- Work in partnership with families and carers to ensure consistency and holistic support for students.
- Stay up to date with best practices in SEND education through professional development opportunities.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other special educational needs.
- A strong understanding of autism and strategies for supporting students with sensory and communication needs.
- Ability to differentiate lessons to meet a range of abilities and learning styles.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with SEND.
- Additional qualifications in SEND or autism-specific training (e.g., NASENCO, TEACCH, PECS).
- Experience in using assistive technologies or alternative teaching methods.
- Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and experience working with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
