Planning Manager

Congleton

A leading land promotion company is seeking a skilled Planning Manager to join their Planning & Projects department. This role offers the opportunity to work on major strategic sites, promoting them through the development plan process and planning applications. Reporting to the Planning Director, you will play a key role in shaping planning strategies and delivering successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning process for strategic land sites, working under a Senior Project Manager/Planning Director.
  • Draft and approve reports for planning applications, appeals, and policy representations.
  • Support senior colleagues on planning matters and wider business strategies.
  • Review external consultant reports, provide feedback, and sign off final versions.
  • Conduct research and formulate strategies for site promotion and planning applications.
  • Prepare well-researched reports to support site allocation and planning submissions.
  • Attend meetings with landowners and agents to identify and secure new development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement planning and engagement strategies.
  • Manage workload effectively, ensuring deadlines are met and tasks are appropriately delegated.
  • Organize and participate in public engagement activities, including formal consultations.
  • Mentor junior planners, providing guidance and professional development support.
  • Coordinate and contribute to complex planning research tasks.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Planning or a related field, with RTPI eligibility.
  • Extensive experience in planning, either within a consultancy or local planning authority.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 106 agreements and the planning application process.
  • Proven experience in promoting sites through development plans and applications.
  • Skilled in preparing reports for planning submissions and policy representations.
  • Ability to develop and implement planning strategies with minimal oversight.
  • Understanding of local, regional, and national growth drivers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and coordination abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, building strong relationships.
  • A proactive and dedicated approach to work.
