Our client has a programme of works within MoD and is looking for a number of consultants to support the current Permanent team. One of them being a PKI Consultant.

The PKI Consultant is responsible for providing expert advice and support on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions within the Ministry of Defence (MoD). This role involves designing, implementing, and managing PKI systems to ensure the security and integrity of sensitive information. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of cryptographic principles and PKI standards.

Individual must have DV clearance to start

Key Responsibilities:
  • PKI Architecture Design: Develop and implement PKI architectures aligned with MoD security policies and standards.
  • PKI Implementation: Oversee the deployment and configuration of PKI components, including Certificate Authorities (CAs), Registration Authorities (RAs), and digital certificates.
  • Key Management: Manage the lifecycle of cryptographic keys, ensuring their protection and proper use.
  • Security Assessment: Conduct regular security assessments of the PKI infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Compliance: Ensure PKI systems adhere to relevant industry standards and MoD regulations.
  • Incident Response: Provide support for PKI-related incidents, conducting investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver PKI training to MoD personnel.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure PKI solutions meet organizational needs.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Strong understanding of PKI concepts, standards (e.g., X.509), and cryptographic algorithms.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and managing PKI systems.
  • Knowledge of PKI-related protocols (e.g., TLS, S/MIME).
  • Proficiency in using PKI management tools and software.
  • Understanding of security best practices and risk management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in the defence or government sector.
  • Knowledge of IT security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
  • Certifications in PKI or information security.
Personal Qualities:
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Excellent time management and organizational skills.
