Assistant Bar Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Assistant Wine Bar Manager to join our team here at The Grape Variety, a sophisticated wine bar located in Chipstead, Surrey. The ideal candidate will support our Bar Manager in delivering exceptional hospitality experiences and maintaining high service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

• Support daily wine bar operations and ensure smooth shift management

• Assist in food preparation of our cheese and charcuterie boards etc.

• Assist in the opening and closing procedures

• Monitor inventory levels of wines, spirits, beer, food, and other products

• Co-ordinate product orders and maintain stock levels

Staff Management

• Help train and develop front-of-house staff

• Manage staff scheduling and rosters

• Resolve employee scheduling issues and fill in when necessary

• Motivate team members to deliver outstanding customer service

Guest Experience

• Welcome guests and ensure a pleasant dining atmosphere

• Handle and resolve guest complaints professionally

• Provide expert knowledge about wine selections and pairings

• Assist guests in creating memorable dining experiences

• Develop warm, friendly and genuine rapport with our guests

Digital Marketing Initiatives

• Develop and implement social media strategies to promote The Grape Variety

• Create engaging content for digital platforms, including Instagram and Facebook etc.

• Track and analyse social media metrics to improve audience engagement

• Assist in managing the wine bar's email marketing campaigns and online promotional activities

Event Management and Planning

• Help with the devising of and execution of events, such as:

• Wine tastings

• Supplier-led pairing experiences

• Themed wine and cheese evenings

• Comedy nights

• Food pop-up collaborations

• Special dates (Valentines etc)

• Coordinate event logistics, including:

• Venue setup

• Staff scheduling

• Marketing and promotion

• Work with the senior team in the development of event timelines

• Assist in event costings and the tracking of financial performances of special events

• Collaborate with the senior team to create promotional materials for events

Administrative Duties

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine bar

• Assist with financial tracking and reporting

• Maintain cleaning and food safety records

"Qualifications"

• A proven experience in hospitality is essential, preferably in wine bars, gastro pubs or restaurants, at a minimum of a supervisory level

• Strong leadership and communication skills

• Extensive knowledge of wines and culinary offerings

• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

• Excellent problem-solving and customer service abilities
