About The Role:
The company are seeking a Design & Development Engineer to join their team, to work as part of the Engineering team to develop steering systems to meet customer driven requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience within a design engineering environment.
Role Duties & Requirements:
Design and amend steering systems and components using 3D modelling software, predominately SolidWorks, for a range of different vehicle manufacturers and applications: Bus, Truck, Coach and Military.
Create detailed comprehensive models and drawings suitable for manufacturing and assembly. This will include all required specifications, material selection, geometric tolerancing, surface treatments, etc.
Knowledge and use of FEA to influence the design and understanding of components/assemblies.
Liaise directly with customers/ suppliers and internal departments (including Manufacturing) on a technical/design responsible level.
Experience of testing and validation, including set up and running of sample tests, technical report writing, interpreting results and subsequent decision-making activities.
Able to carry out hand calculations to evaluate loads/forces/torque etc to establish component parameters, requirements. Material suitability.
Knowledge and use of FMEAs, APQP, 8D problem solving techniques.
Involvement with project management and advanced planning for production. Design reviews with multifunctional team members.
Understanding of Project costing and justification quotations, project cost estimates.
Create a Bill of Manufacture via ERP systems.
Knowledge of electronics, programming and control systems would be an advantage.
Propose and implement continual improvement, VA/VE activities and projects to reduce cost, weight and non-value-added time within designs and processes.
Qualified to at least HND or Degree level in an area of Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
Fully conversant with SolidWorks CAD Software (although experience on other systems will be considered and training provided).
Understanding of the product realisation and change control elements of the IATF-16949 business management system.
Full driving licence.
Some travel maybe required to discuss projects, which may include foreign travel.
