The Role

The Senior Governance Officer provides key support to the operation of the University Group’s governance arrangements including the Coventry University Board of Governors and its Committees, University Group executive committees and the Boards of the UK-based and international companies associated with the University Group.The post-holder will keep abreast of developments in governance and committee management and ensure that the University Group operates in line with best practice, providing advice where appropriate.They will provide administrative support to the Chair of the Board, Chair of Committees and Chairs of the Boards of Directors and to individual governors/directors as required. They will assist the Head of Governance and Group Company Secretary across their areas of responsibility, such as;

  • Arranging and/or attending meetings of the Board of Governors, its Committees, University Group executive committees and the Boards of companies associated with the Coventry University Group, including preparing agendas and minutes.
  • Facilitating communications between members of the Boards/Committees, the Vice-Chancellor, and senior staff in the University Group on matters of governance.
  • Liaising with external professional bodies (e.g. corporate secretarial services, auditors) in the support and operation of governance arrangements in the Group
  • Maintaining accurate information and filing statutory returns at Companies House and other regulatory bodies.

Our Successful Candidate

The successful candidate would demonstrate considerable experience in corporate governance and company administration at a senior level. They will possess strong knowledge and understanding of the law and practice relating to company administration and governance requirements. Preferably this experience would relate to the operation and management of a higher education institution.

The ability to travel nationally is also required.
