Purpose of the role:
The role is designed to own and evolve the pricing strategy for the business. The individual will oversee the processes for analysing proposed pricing movements and implementing price changes across the quote bank and for new projects. This pivotal role is crucial for driving profitable growth and will be an integral part of the wider management team.
Duties:
- Design and implement a pricing strategy to improve overall profitability across the business that is in alignment with the overall customer growth strategy.
- Identify and formulate customer strategies to establish pricing structures to address unprofitable customer or drive purchasing activity from those with low growth levels.
- Take commercial responsibility for the sales/margin impacts of pricing decision making and optimise the approach accordingly.
- Devise a suite of analytics that provides insight to understand the success of the pricing strategy and adapt said strategy as required.
- Appraise, review and adjust as appropriate pricing processes including the management of quotes and management of price changes.
- Manage and develop the Commercial Costing Manager, developing their technical and behavioural skillset.
- Participate in the overall leadership of the business as part of the wider management team, supporting business-wide initiatives to drive performance, reduce risk and further develop the business as a great place to work.
- Work with the business’s external IT provider to ensure the IT roadmap meets the needs of the pricing function and ensure any IT development work is appropriately scoped and supported by a realistic business case.
- Operate as a 'critical friend’ to the sales function - challenging them to maximise areas of opportunity and making recommendations for improvement.
Challenges of the role:
In this dynamic role, the individual will engage with intricate datasets daily, leveraging advanced analytical models and to extract meaningful insights. Their expertise will drive both immediate and strategic decision-making. They will tactically manage pricing in response to supply chain fluctuations to safeguard profitability, while also shaping the long-term pricing strategy over a horizon of up to three years.
This technical position demands a hands-on approach to data management, analytics, and insight generation. The role requires balancing this with the ability to step back, evaluate the broader picture, and devise strategies for long-term performance enhancement. Building strong relationships and effectively influencing stakeholders to embrace pricing processes and initiatives are also crucial aspects of this role.
Requirements
- Significant experience working within a commercial environment.
- Extensive pricing experience within a B2B environment.
- Experience of establishing a strategy and identifying the KPI’s to measure performance against it.
- Understands how to use data-led decision-making techniques
- Understanding of the dynamics of pricing decision making within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical capability
- Ability to work with common data-analysis tools such as spreadsheets, databases and data visualisation tools.
- Strong communication skills
- Good level of education - minimum A Level or equivalent.
