About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced workshop machinist to join our clients team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the operation of a variety of manual and CNC machinery to produce precision components and parts, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to specifications. This is a hands-on role that requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety. The purpose of this role is to execute on-site machining projects with a focus on cost efficiency, customer satisfaction.
This role requires extensive travel within the UK and internationally, and candidates must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, vertical borers and other workshop tools.
- Must be confident programming setting and operating CNC machines
- Perform assigned on-site machining tasks with precision and efficiency.
- Monitor and control job costs to adhere to planned levels.
- Prepare necessary equipment for upcoming assignments.
- Conduct surveys of potential work sites, gathering comprehensive technical, administrative, and commercial information for method proposals and quotations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to produce components to precise measurements.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspection of machines to ensure operational efficiency.
- Measure and verify dimensions of finished parts using precision instruments such as micrometres, calipers, and gauges.
- Work with a variety of materials, including metals, plastics, and composites, as required.
- Collaborate with engineers and team members to optimise machining processes and resolve technical issues.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Record production activities, including timesheets and job completion logs, ensuring accurate documentation.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a workshop machinist or similar role.
- Proficiency in the operation of manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders and CNC machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, and measurement techniques.
- Keen eye for detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with safety standards and best practices in a workshop environment.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable Qualifications:
- NVQ or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, or a related field.
- Experience in a heavy engineering environment.
- Previous experience working over sea's (Not essential but desirable due to knowing what this kind of job would entail)
