Powertrain Calibration / System Performance Engineer - Coventry - £38,000 to £54,000 plus excellent benefits

Jonathan Lee Recruitment is helping one of the world's leading technology companies for development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry recruit a Powertrain Calibration / System Performance Engineer, and the role comes with a highly competitive salary and excellent benefits.

The roles will typically cover a variety of functions and disciplines, including ICE calibration, powertrain system performance development, data analysis, issue investigation & resolution, system modelling and simulation. Work in new powertrain sectors (battery, fuel cell, etc) is also a possibility.

Some industry or academic experience is preferred, but training will be offered & given to candidates as required. 

In your first few weeks in this Powertrain Calibration / System Performance Engineer role, you can expect to:

  • Develop and manage powertrain calibrations using client toolsets & processes
  • Define, generate & manage engine test plans
  • Plan, execute and analyse engine & system simulation activities
  • Completed system performance assessments, including trade-offs and data analysis
  • Review data and root cause analysis (RCA) to identify powertrain system issues & develop solutions for resolution
  • Conduct system modelling, calibration simulation, using toolsets such a Matlab SIMULINK
  • Functioning within a professional team, generate & present reports (verbal & written) including recommendations and proposals
  • Work with other internal and external teams to deliver project objectives
  • Promote best practice and robust technical solutions using toolsets as appropriate

To apply for this Calibration Engineer role, your soft skills, expertise and experience should include:

  • 2:1 or above Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant topic
  • Excellent understanding of diesel internal combustion engine operation and performance
  • Knowledge of ancillary systems (air path, exhaust aftertreatment technologies, control, etc)
  • Understanding of vehicle architecture & control systems
  • Experience or knowledge of vehicle emissions requirements
  • Good knowledge of simulation systems, particularly Matlab SIMULINK
  • Working knowledge of calibration toolsets & engine calibration, including trade-offs for emissions and performance
  • Excellent analytical skills, able to interpret data and results and present results in a clear & understandable format
  • Strong team player, with good communication & English language skills
  • A self-starter, 'can-do' approach, able to work with other team members at all levels to reach 'win-win' agreements
  • A strong willingness to learn and develop

 

Highly Desirable Attributes

  • PhD in relevant subject
  • Knowledge of the off highway (NRMM) or heavy duty on road sector, including emissions legislation (Stage V, Tier 4 final, etc)
  • Experience of using calibration and data analysis tools (e.g.: AVL CONCERTO, Vector CANape, AVL CAMEO, DIAdem, etc)
  • An understanding in the techniques, process, toolsets & methodology for Virtual Calibration
  • Expert NRMM ICE experience (calibration, analysis & simulation)
  • Good knowledge of NRMM machines and associated systems
  • An interest in non-ICE based power technologies (Fuel Cells, battery systems, etc)
  • Controls & calibration development using SiL & MiL techniques
  • Familiarisation with 1-D simulation tools (Eg: GT-Power)

You'll receive an excellent salary of up to £54,000 p/a and benefits package for your knowledge, expertise and flexibility.
