Purpose of the Role:
To provide agile and flexible technical support across the breadth of the business, working closely with the technical team on product development and commercial team on management of material supply, sourcing and suppliers to ensure compliance with legal, quality, safety, environmental and ethical requirements standards.
The Technical manager will work closely with operations to ensure appropriate QC set up and processes within factories ensuring best quality product is shipped to customers.
Responsible for providing agile and flexible technical support to the technical, commercial and operations team in accordance with prioritised business needs.
Responsible for product evaluation and approval working with the technical team, including risk assessment and benchmarking processes, to ensure that product development is compliant.
To ensure all non-compliance issues are effectively dealt with and appropriate remedial action taken through direct contact with appropriate supplier contact prior to product approval.
Work with Operations to ensure QC set up in each factory is fit for purpose. Measure and monitor manufactured product quality standards to ensure customer service levels and satisfaction are met.
Carry out supplier evaluation and approvals as appropriate, including associated manufacturing sites, and ensure all non-compliance issues are effectively dealt with and appropriate remedial action taken. Ensure that the necessary improvements are identified and followed through with the timely and accurate distribution of associated reports.
Investigate and report on technical queries and quality concerns in relation to product returns, critical product failures and customer complaints identifying remedial actions, product changes and associated cost implications.
Identifying opportunities for profit improvement, through close collaboration with the Technical, Commercial and Operations teams proactively using knowledge of product specifications and supplier capabilities.
Ensure accuracy of product certification and specification data for products and those provided by suppliers and maintain technical files to the required level of detail and content.
Person Specification:
- In-depth knowledge of QA and responsible sourcing practices and methodology
- At least 5 years related experience - some within manufacturing
- A proven track record in delivering improvements in Quality Assurance and Responsible Sourcing in a commercial environment
- Performance reporting, analytics, processes development
- Practical experience of Supplier, Factory, CSR (Ethical) audits
- Delivery of commercial benefit and Customer proposition development
- Working knowledge of British & European product safety, legal & technical standards and associated compliance certification/conformance
