JOB PURPOSE + SCOPE OF THE ROLE
The role of the Process Engineer is to support all production requirements and support business growth through continuous improvement of the manufacturing methods to produce our world class Energy Absorption Equipment in an efficient manner.
The candidate will be a critical team member developing complex component assembly methods following our internal processes, procedures, and assembly drawings. You will be required to work closely with the Engineering and Manufacturing teams to influence the design for manufacture on new and existing products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES + DUTIES
Key elements for the role include:
- Creation and control of standard work and assembly procedures.
- Lead/perform the design, installation, qualification & validation of production tooling, test equipment, jigs & fixtures.
- Creation & implementation of work instructions & fixturing to support welding & fabrication processes.
- Ensure all manufacturing documentation is created, implemented, maintained and controlled.
- Creation of documentation to support New Product Introduction including PFMEAs, process flows & control plans.
- Lead & support prototype assembly builds prior to production handover.
- Timely resolution of manufacturing issues through robust and effective root cause analysis, including implementation of permanent and preventative corrective actions.
- Actively support engineering change requests to ensure activities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
- Create & maintain cell layouts for new and existing assembly areas.
Provide ongoing support for all assembly, welding & painting activities performed within all Oleo facilities (Coventry, China, Germany & India.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION (S) / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE
- Recognised Technical Apprenticeship and/or HNC level equivalent in mechanical engineering (Degree preferred).
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of the production engineering/industrial engineering function.
- Knowledge of assembly methods and tooling.
- Experience of managing Capex projects.
- Experience in NPI and process improvements.
- Experience of implementing Lean improvements.
- Experience in mid/low volume high complex assemblies.
- Previous experience working on an assembly line and/or bench build.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES
- Proven track record implementing lean improvements within an assembly environment. (Kaizen, Flow, 6S, Process Mapping, RCCA, SMED, Standard Operation Sheets, TPM & Visual Management).
- Able to read component, stage & assembly drawings including GD&T.
- Ability to create stage drawings and methods of manufacture.
- Knowledge of BOMs, routings and work instructions.
- Knowledge of manual & automated assembly processes.
- Willingness to lead & provide hands-on support for prototype assembly builds.
- Understanding of industrial welding & paint processes.
- Ability to complete shop floor process instructions and safe working procedures.Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
- High standard of numeracy and literacy.
- Communicating and presenting data effectively to all levels of the business.
- Familiar with Quality Systems / PPAP & Environmental Issues.
