A well-established engineering and manufacturing company is seeking a Procurement Category Manager to lead a team of Procurement Category Specialists/Buyers. This key role will be responsible for ensuring best value through strategic sourcing and category management, supporting production growth, maintaining high quality standards, and driving cost efficiencies.

The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in commodity management within manufacturing, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a strong track record in supplier relationship management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Procurement Category Specialists.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support production growth, improve quality, and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product design and quality control.
  • Oversee strategic sourcing, supplier relationships, and risk management.
  • Identify new sourcing opportunities while rationalising the current supply base.
  • Analyse market trends and provide insights for upcoming development programs.
  • Support the team in negotiations and resolving supply issues during part development.
  • Prepare reports and present to senior management on category performance.
  • Represent the department in high-level meetings both internally and externally.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Business or Engineering.
  • Extensive procurement or commodity management experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Proven experience leading teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on long-term strategic goals.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with AS400 and Infor LN systems.
