Charging Systems Test Engineer
Location: Whitley, Coventry (On-site)
Contract Type: Ongoing, Inside IR35
Rate: £26.65 per hour (Umbrella)

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Charging Systems Test Engineer to join the Powertrain Charging Systems team within the Charging Validation & Verification organisational unit. This role will focus on delivering high-quality test data to support design release activities and technological advancements in electric vehicle charging infrastructure compatibility.

As a Charging Systems Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in preparing test facilities and instrumentation to measure a wide range of charging system signals and variables. This includes both on-board vehicle systems and external infrastructure. You will also support data collection in various environments, including test facilities, public roads, and proving grounds. Your contribution will directly impact the development of a seamless and stress-free charging experience for customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare test facilities and test parts with instrumentation for measuring charging system variables.
  • Support data collection in test facilities, on public roads, and at proving grounds.
  • Analyse and report on test data to support design release and technology advancements.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure accurate and efficient testing procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety and quality standards throughout testing activities.

Skills Required:

  • Awareness of existing charging standards (e.g. CCS / COMBO, DIN 70121, and ISO15118).
  • Experience with IATF16949 or ISO9001 standards and requirements.
  • A full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points, no disqualification.

Experience Required:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Good communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Experience in studying and reporting on test data.
  • Ability to validate, prepare, and interpret documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office to create plans, presentations, graphs, and process documentation.
  • A full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points, no disqualification, and a two-year accident-free record.

Experience Preferred:

  • Demonstrable software integration knowledge.
  • Experience with vehicle charging systems and applications.
  • Understanding of electronic hardware design and testing.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt training and certification.
  • Experience conducting testing on proving grounds.
  • Knowledge of instrument calibration processes.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages (C/C++, Python, Java, or similar).
  • Educated to degree level in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
