We are delighted to present an exciting and challenging opportunity for a flexible, talented Senior Masterplanner/Urban Designer to join a prestigious organisation on a permanent basis at their head office in Coventry.
The Role
In this position you will:
- Work on a variety of UK projects-predominantly medium, large, and very large scale residential and mixed-use masterplans and housing layouts for both public and private sector developments.
- Serve as the day-to-day contact for key project stakeholders.
- Manage significant, high-profile projects by leading multi-disciplinary teams, including an in-house landscape team.
- Prepare tender submissions, bids, and attend or present at project interviews.
- Lead project teams, ensuring that each phase runs smoothly and meets quality standards.
- Conduct site, context, and character appraisals to inform the design process for new developments.
- Develop masterplan drawings, design strategies, and detailed illustrations that support core design principles.
- Produce comprehensive Design Codes and Design and Access Statements featuring both written and graphic elements.
- Collaborate with local communities and stakeholders through design workshops and public exhibitions.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- To excel in this role you will ideally have:
- A postgraduate diploma or Master's in Urban Design, preferably built on an undergraduate degree in Architecture. Candidates with a Planning background should be able to demonstrate a high level of skill in delivering detailed masterplans and layouts.
- Alternatively, candidates with less formal qualifications but an excellent track record and strong portfolio will be considered.
- Experience working on UK residential and mixed-use development masterplans, either within Urban Design or in a detailed layout capacity.
- A robust design background gained within a consultancy environment.
- Proven project management skills, with experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
- A solid understanding of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, with the ability to develop detailed codes and 3D briefs.
- Excellent written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, coupled with a genuine interest in community engagement.
- A keen insight into business development and an understanding of project stakeholder needs within the residential sector.
- The ability to produce high-quality hand-drawn sketches, demonstrating a strong eye for detail.
Qualifications:
- RIBA-qualified with an Urban Design Master's/PG Dip or a Bachelors in Architecture with an Urban Design Master's/PG Dip or RTPI-qualified with an Urban Design Master's/PG Dip.
