The Recruitment Co are urgently recruiting for an experienced SHE Manager to join our clients state-of-the-art manufacturing site in Llantrisant.

Contract: Permanent

Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday Days

Overview: Managing and overseeing the growth of the safety culture at the site associates which in turn encourages and allows them to make the right choices during the performance of every task. The SHE Manager reports to the Plant Operations Director with a dotted line of reporting to the Regional SHE team.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify and plan Emergency Response Plan, conducting emergency response drills for a variety of scenarios (fire/spill) and drive closure of corrective actions as required
  • Provide risk assessment support to Managers and produce high level reports and articulate to senior leadership team as required
  • Undertake and lead accident investigations, tracking corrective through to closure, root cause analysis (e.g. 5 why, Taproot)
  • Chair safety champion meetings and develop program
  • Identify links with R&D for future improvements
  • Develop and manage internal audit program and lead management systems in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits, ensuring management system is maintained
  • Conduct regular site compliance inspections and ensure recommendations are implemented
  • Support site teams with all on-site projects and review contractor permits and manage a suite of health and safety programs for the organization in accordance with the Global strategy and market regulatory requirements. The Programs will include but are not limited to:

Reporting - Ensures reporting discipline by fully deploying the corporate Safety Management System to record vehicle accidents, injuries, safety observations, etc. and collects and collates secondary data required for monthly performance reporting. The data will be used to monitor, report and communicate SHE performance to management
Incident Investigation - In accordance with Global standards, investigates most incidents to assess and discover the route cause. Actively engages with first line managers to ensure mitigation procedures are implemented
Training - Organizes and in some cases delivers Safety Trainings (incl. induction, on-boarding, basic safety and leadership training). This may be through internal sessions or external providers depending on requirements but includes the maintenance of training records to ensure compliance
Personal Safety - Maintains an appropriate PPE program which includes a scheme to define Divisional requirements and for the supply, maintenance and replacement of such. Develops the Risk Assessments and Safety Instructions as required by the respective task or workplace

Specific Requirements:

  • The role requires a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role in the chemical industry
  • NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate working toward Diploma
  • Experience of COMAH desirable (Control of Major Accident Hazards) and further development of sites controls as the business accelerates
  • Knowledge and experience of DSEAR (Dangerous Substances Explosive Atmosphere Regulation) to further support
  • Chemical Engineering/Process Safety Degree
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Safety Health and Environmental legislation
  • Strong IT, data analysis and statistical understanding and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivation and the ability to self-supervise are essential with strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
  • Strong organisational skills with a willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced demanding environment
  • Experience in leading and managing ISO Certification Programs
  • Experience in SHE Audit Programs (Internal/External Auditor Training)
  • Experience dealing with time demands and working with incomplete information.
  • Can demonstrate leadership potential and coaching, training and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver results
  • Previous experience or exposure to project and change management
