The Role
The Head of Clinical Services is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and quality assurance of clinical services within Greater Lancashire Hospital. The individual will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of exceptional, patient-centred care while fostering innovation and adhering to regulatory and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for clinical services aligned with the hospital’s mission and objectives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to department heads, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to promote excellence in patient care
- Collaborate with executive leadership to set short- and long-term goals for clinical services.
Clinical Operations:
- Oversee the delivery of clinical services across all departments, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with best practices.
- Monitor resource allocation, including staffing, equipment and facilities to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Identify and resolve operational challenges to enhance service delivery
Quality and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with health regulatory bodies, accreditation standards and hospital policies.
- Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPI’s) related to patient safety, clinical outcomes and service efficiency
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to achieve clinical excellence and patient satisfaction.
Team Management & Development:
- Recruit, train, mentor and evaluate clinical staff to build a cohesive, high performing team in line with regulatory bodies and the company values.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continued professional development
- Address performance issues and ensure adherence to hospital standards
Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage budgets for clinical services, ensuring fiscal responsibility and cost effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities to optimise clinical operations and reduce costs without compromising quality
- Work with the finance team to track and report financial performance
- Work closely with other department leads to ensure effective management of budgets across the hospital site
- Collaborate in the monthly report on the Hospital trading figures including Profit & Loss
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as the primary liaison between clinical teams, executive director and department leads
- Represent the hospital in professional and community forums, enhancing its reputation as a leader in healthcare delivery
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers, organisations and regulators to align services with industry advancements
Skills and Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RGN) with a valid UK Licence
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field (Required)
- Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration/Business Administration (preferred)
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nursing, with at least 3 years in a leadership/management role.
- Strong knowledge of clinical service delivery, patient safety, and healthcare regulations.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare environment.
- Proficiency in healthcare management software and data analysis tools is an advantage.
- Strong focus on financial management including budgets, costings and forecasts
