Cell Culture Technician

Oxford

3 months temporary

17.00 to 20.00 depending on experience

Biotechnology company seeking an experienced temporary Laboratory Technician to work in their cell culture laboratory and across the other laboratory functions to provide technical support alongside lab-based scientists to improve the efficiency of laboratory processes and maintain a well-functioning and safe laboratory.

Key duties

Culturing mammalian cells in aseptic conditions.

Preparing cell culture reagents using aseptic technique.

Routine cleaning, decontamination and maintenance of lab equipment.

Preparing buffer solutions and reagents.

Preparation of Microbiology media and media plates.

Mycoplasma testing of cell lines using an ELISA kit.

Organising samples to be sent for HLA typing at an external supplier.

Stock control, purchasing and distributing lab reagents and consumables.

Operation and organisation of glass/plastic wash and autoclave.

Overseeing with the use of the asset register the maintenance and servicing of laboratory equipment in conjunction with the Lab Manager.

Maintaining records of all service reports, job sheets, RAMS etc.

Candidate

Relevant Life Sciences background and qualifications.

Direct hands-on laboratory experience in aseptic technique and culturing of mammalian cell lines, ideally in a biotech company or working in a protein engineering or microbiology laboratory.

Shown a desire to provide material and practical support to scientists.

Flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and adopt new practices to support the company.

Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.

Good communication skills.

Excellent record-keeping skills.

Shown a commitment to ensuring laboratory equipment is maintained and operated in a safe manner.
