Mechanical Maintenance Fitter
Cranfield, Bedfordshire
36,395.38 per annum
Monday- Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-1:20pm ( 39 hours per week)
This is a static site-based position


We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person for our client based in Cranfield. As a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter you will provide a delivery of facilities support services across our clients site. You will be responsible for carrying out a range of general/fabric maintenance and business support tasks. You will report to the Operations Supervisor and assist as required in the delivery of reactive, planned and ad-hoc maintenance tasks.

Mechanical Maintenance Fitter Responsibilities-

  • Fault finding in mechanical / electromechanical equipment & control systems.
  • Undertake maintenance, inspection and repair of the plant in accordance with the agreed maintenance regime, including scheduling new tasks.
  • Ensuring that machinery and equipment meets safety regulations.
  • Intervening in the event of breakdowns, failures or malfunctions.
  • Carry out regular weekly walk rounds of the site to identify any facility asset deterioration and report, repair as needed and be first line for any alterations or new equipment.
  • Respond to user requests for repair, maintenance and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Ensure spares are identified and managed in line with materials required.
  • Set up equipment in an efficient manner, based on a sound technical understanding of the equipment and its functionality.
  • Liaise with and manage suppliers and contractors to ensure the best possible service is delivered to the company.
  • Diagnosis of mechanical issues with equipment/facility and facilitate its repair.
  • Support the upgrade of mechanical equipment within the test facilities.
  • Happy to work in confined spaces and at height.
  • Frequent usage of a nifty lift, FLT and scaffold towers.

Mechanical Maintenance Fitter Requirements-

  • In-depth knowledge of complex mechanical, facility & electromechanical equipment.
  • City & Guilds or BTEC National qualification in mechanical/electrical engineering ( or equivalent)
  • Good problem-solving skills with a methodical approach.
  • Ability to work in a varied role, working effectively on multiple tasks in parallel.
  • Self-motivated, conscientious with the ability to communicate effectively and work either independently or as part of a team.
  • Able to learn quickly about new subjects and apply that learning to current tasks.
  • Acutely aware of all H&S aspects and a strong understanding of isolation and lockout procedures.
  • A strong Mechanical and Electrical skillset, ideally with an emphasis on Mechanical
  • Engineering.
  • Familiarity with automotive test facilities such as MTS hydraulic systems and environmental test
  • A flexible and responsive attitude to go above and beyond when required.
  • Ability to remain focused in high pressure situations.
  • Computer literate with experience of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Good Health & Safety knowledge and attitude - understanding of and experience of carrying out risk assessments.
  • To work in support of a preventative maintenance strategy. Undertaking work of a predictive preventive and repair nature.
  • Meet and exceed set KPIs for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Ensure contractors are appropriately supervised and comply with contractual commitments and site operating processes.
  • Document and communicate as necessary comprehensive maintenance records
  • Full UK driving licence.
