Teaching Assistant

We are looking for several SEN Teaching Assistants to join the growing education team at a beautiful specialized school and college, spanning across 23 acres of incredible land.

You will be working with students aged 5 to 19 who have severe social communication challenges, complex learning disabilities, and occasionally difficult behaviours, helping them engage with therapy-based learning. Through your support and empathy, you will assist students in reaching their maximum level of independence according to their individual needs and help prepare them for life after school or college.

Classes are small, with 5 to 11 students, grouped based on their abilities and social needs rather than age. Some sessions are structured, while many students follow a personalized timetable. They focus on essential subjects like literacy, numeracy, and science, as well as life skills such as cooking and gardening. Lessons are typically 30 minutes long. Some students are non-verbal and use alternative communication methods such as Makaton, signs, symbols, or communication aids, often engaging in multi-sensory learning.

Supporting the students can be challenging, as they may experience frustration, anxiety, or emotional distress. You will play a vital role in guiding them through these challenges, helping them manage their emotions and behaviour. You will receive continuous support from a dedicated, skilled team and benefit from comprehensive training, which covers safeguarding, autism awareness, and positive behaviour support. Some students may require assistance with personal care.

• Full time or Part time (no less than 3 days a week)
• Term time only (39 weeks per year)
• Monday (8-16:00), Tuesday - Thursday (8:30-16:15) and Fridays (8:30-15:45)
• Permanent contract, starting as soon as employment checks have been completed

You don't need experience to apply. You do need empathy and compassion. Physical and mental resilience are essential qualities for all staff along with a "can do" attitude. You must be prepared to provide personal care for some of the students who require assistance to stay clean and comfortable (full training will be given).

A drivers licence is desirable, but not essential, due to the schools location. There is free parking on site.
