Quality Engineer

Department: Quality Engineering
Reports to: Quality Manager

Job Purpose The Quality Engineer's purpose is to ensure the quality and safety of products and processes through the application of Quality Systems and activities to meet business objectives.


Specific Duties and Key Accountabilities

Lead quality investigations associated with customer and internal build quality issues.

Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions using the 8D process.

Provide quality engineering support to all production cells.

Lead MRB activities in production and Goods Inwards.

Assist in the day-to-day running of the customer RMA process.

Prepare PPAP and FAIR reports.

Assist in maintaining ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 Quality Management Standards.

Carry out internal audits as per ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards.

Assist in supplier quality assurance activities.

Conduct quality assurance activities related to new product introduction (NPI).


Skills and Experience Essential:

  • Experience in manufacturing within the Quality department.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 QMS.
  • Experience dealing with end customers to resolve quality issues.
  • Experience dealing with external suppliers for product quality issues.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving methods like 8D, fishbone, 5 Whys, etc.
  • Practical experience with PFMEA, Process Maps, and Quality Control Plans.
  • Experience preparing PPAP and FAIRs.
  • Internal ISO 9001 auditor.
  • Demonstrable people and project management skills.
  • Basic understanding of technical drawings, measurements, and tolerances.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and other basic software.
  • Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to tasks/projects.
  • Efficient and organized.
  • Proactive problem-solver with a "can do" attitude.
  • Open to learning from mistakes and receptive to constructive criticism.

 
Significant Advantages:

  • Experience in electronic manufacturing, particularly PCB manufacturing.
  • Experience with ISO 14001.
  • Experience with ISO 13485.
  • Experience with ISO 27001.
  • Lead ISO 9001 auditor certification.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • Lean manufacturing expertise.


Other Advantages:

Advanced Excel skills (VBA/Macros).

Chartered professional status (CQI) or membership in a similar professional body.


Qualifications

Essential:

  • A suitable college-level qualification (A-level, BTEC, C&G, NVQ, etc.) in a relevant subject.

Preferred:

Electronics-based qualifications or experience.

Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering.

Knowledge of Macros/VBA scripting in MS Office.

Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

CQI Professional qualification.
