Job Overview:We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Higher Level Teaching Assistant HLTA/Maths to join our Maths department in a vibrant and supportive secondary school. The successful candidate will work closely with the Maths teaching team to support students in their understanding and application of mathematical concepts. You will play a vital role in providing targeted support to students of varying abilities, helping them to build confidence and achieve their full potential in mathematics.

Key Responsibilities for a HLTA/Maths:

  • Support the planning and delivery of engaging maths lessons, working with students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Assist in teaching key mathematical concepts, including algebra, geometry, and statistics, ensuring students understand and apply these principles effectively.
  • Work with small groups and individuals to provide focused support, addressing gaps in knowledge and helping students overcome challenges.
  • Deliver lessons and lead whole-class activities in the absence of the class teacher, following pre-prepared lesson plans.
  • Provide targeted intervention for students who require additional help, including those with SEN, EAL, or who are working below expected levels.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering feedback and guidance to help them improve.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging students to engage with maths and develop problem-solving skills.
  • Assist in preparing resources, setting up classroom activities, and supporting teachers with lesson planning and marking.
  • Collaborate with the Maths department to contribute to the ongoing development of teaching strategies and resources.
  • Support school-wide initiatives, such as maths clubs or revision sessions, to enhance student engagement and achievement.
  • Uphold school policies on behaviour and safeguarding, maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students.

Qualifications and Experience to be a HLTA/Maths:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience working in a secondary school.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics and experience supporting maths teaching at the secondary level.
  • Experience working with students across a range of abilities, including those with SEN and EAL.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and take the lead when required, including delivering lessons and managing the classroom in the teacher's absence.
  • A commitment to supporting student progress and helping students build confidence in their mathematical abilities.
  • A collaborative, team-focused approach, with a dedication to contributing to the school's wider community and goals.
