GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Southgate, Enfield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in SEN who is committed to supporting young learners in achieving their full potential.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will work closely with students requiring additional support, helping them access the curriculum and develop their confidence and skills. You will play a key role in creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities of an SEN TA:

  • Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons, adapting resources as needed to meet individual needs.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies under the guidance of the SENCO.
  • Support students with personal care needs, where required.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers.
  • Encourage and develop students’ independence and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with the wider school team, including teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals, to provide the best support for students.
  • Contribute to creating an environment where all students feel safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, ideally in a school setting as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • CACHE Level 3 or NVQ 2/3 for Teaching Assistant or childcare is essential.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education or in a similar field.
  • Knowledge about SEN-related issues, especially about Autism, SEMH, ADHD and other learning difficulties.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
