Role: Assistant Accountant

Location: Crowborough, East Sussex

Salary: to 35,000 + annual profit bonus + excellent benefits

Hours: Monday - Friday 9-5pm /Hybrid working - 2 days remote working / 3 in office following training period

The Company is looking for an Assistant Accountant to work closely with the Finance Director and manage some of the key processes within the Finance Function. The successful candidate will have attained their AAT level 3 diploma (or equivalent) and be keen to progress with a career in accounting. The company will provide further AAT study support (if desired) with progression to Management Accountant available.

As an Assistant Accountant will have the opportunity to work closely with the Finance Director, assisting with key processes within the Finance team of 3. You will become the second hand person in the finance team and will have an opportunity to learn and grow with the company. With expansion plans in place this role really could take you anywhere.

Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Finance Director with the preparation of monthly management account schedules and other reporting
    • Accruals, prepayments and journal entry
    • Maintenance of fixed asset register
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Credit card reconciliations and administration
    • Credit control, including new customer applications and chasing overdue debts
    • Preparing payment runs
    • Processing expense and business mileage claims
    • Holiday and sickness cover for purchase ledger clerk
    • Monitoring of 'accounts@' email inbox, responding to customers and colleagues as required
    • Answering telephone calls
    • Assist with financial audit preparations
    • Provide support to the Finance Director with ad hoc tasks as they arise

Requirements:

  • AAT Level 3+ / Equivalent experience
  • Experience in credit control is essential
  • Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, including prepayments, accruals and depreciation is essential
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including v-lookups and pivot tables
  • Friendly, approachable, and excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Pro-active and keen to adopt best working practises
  • Attention to detail
