We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team and support the learning and development of our students.
The Role:As a Teaching Assistant at our school, you will play a key role in providing one-to-one and group support to children with PMLD and complex needs. Working closely with the class teacher and other professionals, you will help to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that enables students to access the curriculum and develop their social, emotional, and academic skills. You will assist with personal care, communication, and learning activities, ensuring that each child’s individual needs are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and group support to students with PMLD and complex needs.
- Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet each child’s specific learning and developmental needs.
- Support students with communication, using methods such as Makaton, PECS, and other alternative communication tools.
- Help students develop key life skills, including social interaction, independence, and emotional regulation.
- Assist with personal care, feeding, and mobility as required, ensuring the well-being and comfort of students at all times.
- Support teachers in delivering a tailored curriculum that is engaging and accessible for all students.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers.
- Encourage positive behaviour and support students in developing their social and emotional skills.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive school environment by working closely with other staff members and parents.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
About You:
- Previous experience working with children with PMLD, complex needs, or in a special education setting is highly desirable, but not essential.
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for working with children with additional needs.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to use Makaton, PECS, or other alternative communication methods (or a willingness to learn).
- A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A strong commitment to supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of students.
- An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to the welfare of children.
- A willingness to participate in training and professional development to enhance your skills.
