The Role:As a Primary Teacher at our school, you will be responsible for delivering tailored, engaging, and sensory-rich lessons to students with PMLD and complex needs. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that focus on the holistic development of each child, including their communication, social, emotional, and physical skills. The role requires a creative and empathetic approach to teaching, ensuring that each child’s needs are met in a way that promotes their well-being and maximizes their learning potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver, and assess a differentiated curriculum for children with PMLD and complex needs.
- Work closely with the SENCO and other professionals to create and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that support each child’s development.
- Use a range of communication methods, including PECS, Makaton, and other sensory tools, to engage and support students in their learning.
- Provide a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages emotional, social, and cognitive development.
- Monitor and track the progress of each student, adapting learning strategies and resources as required.
- Foster strong relationships with students, helping them to develop confidence, independence, and life skills.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and other staff members to ensure the needs of each child are met.
- Communicate regularly with parents and carers, providing updates on progress and offering advice on supporting learning at home.
- Contribute to the development and review of school policies and practices, ensuring a person-centred approach to education.
- Be a proactive and positive member of the school team, participating in school events, training, and meetings.
About You:
- A qualified Primary Teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
- Experience or a strong interest in working with children with PMLD and complex needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of how to adapt teaching approaches to meet the diverse and complex needs of students.
- Experience using a range of communication techniques, such as Makaton, PECS, or other augmentative and alternative communication systems.
- A patient, empathetic, and creative approach to teaching.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- A commitment to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for all children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
