Senior Mechanical Engineer

One of my clients, a leading specialist in intelligent drive technology and systems, is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This is a permanent, full-time position based at their UK facility.

About the Role

This senior position sits between the Head of Engineering and the Engineering team, providing an additional layer of technical knowledge, experience, and assurance. The role involves both handling personal engineering tasks and managing/reviewing the work of the broader engineering team, ensuring quality standards are met before final approval.

Key Requirements

  • HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanical engineering discipline
  • Minimum 15 years professional engineering experience
  • At least 5 years experience managing engineering teams
  • Experience in industries such as heavy Engineering, Rail, Marine, Power Generation, or Oil and Gas
  • Knowledge of mechanical driveline systems (high-speed gearboxes, cardan shafts, flexible couplings, etc.)
  • Understanding of CAD packages like Siemens NX and Autodesk Inventor
  • Ability to review designs and drawings for quality and accuracy
  • Hands-on, adaptable approach to support junior engineers
  • Strong commercial awareness and communication skills
  • Understanding of production and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of quality systems and standards

Primary Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of the engineering team
  • Component and system failure analysis
  • Providing hands-on engineering support for assessments, FAIs, and problem-solving
  • Reviewing and approving engineering team outputs
  • Creating technical documentation and procedures
  • Supporting junior engineers and workshop staff
  • Assisting with training identification and team development
  • Supplier assessment and approval
  • Working within various engineering standards
  • Deputizing for the Head of Engineering when needed

Compensation Package

  • Competitive salary (£60K-£70K range depending on experience)
  • 36.5-hour work week (Mon-Thu 8:30-16:30, Fri 8:30-15:30)
