Senior Mechanical Engineer | Croydon | up to £70,000 | Permanent
The Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading organisation specialising in intelligent drive technologies and tailor-made services. Operating across diverse industries such as oil and gas, energy, rail, and mechanical engineering, this is a chance to take on a pivotal role within the engineering team.
This site-based position bridges the gap between the Head of Engineering and the engineering team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineered products and services. Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the engineering team, including workload allocation and workshop activities.
- Conduct failure analyses of mechanical components and systems.
- Provide hands-on support for engineering tasks, such as condition assessments, problem solving, method statements, and technical investigations.
- Review and approve designs and drawings, including those created through reverse or re-engineering processes.
- Support the Head of Engineering in upholding standards and deputise in their absence.
- Mentor junior engineers and workshop technicians, identifying training and development opportunities.
- Assist in improving and managing engineering processes in safety-critical environments.
- Ensure compliance with British, ISO, and RISAS standards for mechanical and rail engineering systems.
The Candidate:
- HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanically biased engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 15 years of professional engineering experience, including 5 years in team management.
- Strong expertise in general and reverse engineering, unit testing, and technical investigations.
- Familiarity with CAD packages such as Siemens NX, Autodesk Inventor, and Team Centre.
- Knowledge of mechanical driveline products and systems, such as high-speed gearboxes and rail couplers, is advantageous.
- Understanding of production and manufacturing processes, as well as ISO 9001:2015 quality systems.
- Hands-on, flexible, and proactive approach, with excellent technical communication and leadership skills.

Salary: Up to £70,000 (dependent on experience)
