Job Purpose:

  • Oversee Premises Teams in primary academies, ensuring maintenance, health and safety, and facilities management.
  • Stand in for site managers when absent.

Main Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Manage cleaning services and premises assistants, including recruitment, performance, and training.
  • Schedule and supervise premises staff work.
  • Ensure compliance with EVERY Software.

Building Maintenance:

  • Supervise premises staff and external agencies for maintenance and repairs.
  • Inspect buildings, prioritize repairs, and manage refurbishments.
  • Liaise with Health and Safety Manager and academy leadership on security and safety.
  • Oversee deliveries and community use bookings.

Supporting Site Managers:

  • Ensure high levels of security and health and safety compliance.
  • Inspect premises regularly and manage security systems.

Health and Safety Adviser:

  • Investigate hazards and complaints.
  • Provide information on serious accidents and dangerous occurrences.
  • Maintain records and promote health and safety awareness.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Training:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements.
  • Training in relevant Health and Safety requirements.
  • Training or experience in plumbing, general and ground maintenance, electrical/building maintenance, heating systems.
  • Knowledge of heating and ventilating systems, maintenance and security systems, procurement procedures, supervisory skills, and cleaning methods.

Experience:

  • Experience in inner-city schools or educational establishments.
  • General maintenance and dealing with external contractors.
  • Managing a team of premises staff and premises budgets.
  • Managing large building projects and various events.
  • Ensuring good value for money in service level agreements.

Personal Skills, Abilities & Qualities:

  • Good communication skills and excellent telephone manner.
  • Physical fitness for heavy lifting and ability to handle emergencies.
  • Ability to monitor structural faults, order materials, and work as part of a team.
