Position: SEN Student Support Assistant
Location: Croydon
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Student Support Assistant to join the team of already amazing group of student support assistants at an SEN provision based in Croydon. The role involves working closely with children aged 5 to 11 years old, primarily those with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). As an integral part of our supportive environment, you will help create a nurturing and positive learning experience for these students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individual Support: Provide tailored support to students with PDA, helping them engage with their education and manage their behaviour in a constructive manner.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside teachers and other support staff to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioural strategies.
  • Encouragement and Engagement: Motivate and encourage students, fostering a supportive atmosphere that promotes their emotional and social development.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and record student progress, communicating effectively with teachers and parents as required.
  • Environment Management: Help create and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment, addressing any challenges with sensitivity and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with PDA, is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of PDA and the unique challenges it presents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm and patient demeanour.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
