Job Title: Special Support Assistant
Salary: £23,413.78 - £24,771.87 (FTE £27,343 - £28,929)
Location: CroydonÂ
Hours: 36 hours per week, 44.65 weeks per year
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Special Support Assistants to join a newly formed class at a specialist satellite and outreach service for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). You will play a key role in supporting students with high anxiety and individual needs, providing a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students
- Engage students through their interests and motivations
- Recognise and support emotional dysregulation
- Encourage positive communication and self-expression
- Create a creative and supportive learning atmosphere
- Provide guidance in social situations and emotional understanding
Required Skills:
- A person-centred approach to learning
- Ability to support students with anxiety and neurodiverse needs
- Interest or skills in areas like sports, IT, gaming, or creative hobbies (advantageous)
- Patience, resourcefulness, and creativity in managing student behaviours
