Our ReFood Anaerobic Digestion plants operate as integrated recycling units, processing a variety of food waste to produce renewable energy and ReGrow, a nutrient-rich fertiliser for local farms. The plants also recycle the food waste packaging. The plants provide an environmentally sustainable solution for all waste producers looking for a safe method of diverting food waste from landfill.

The Position

Applications are invited for the position of Health and Safety Advisor based at our ReFood Dagenham site. This is a part-time permanent position, working 24 hours per week (3 days each week). Candidates seeking a full-time role working 40 hours per week may be considered.

As a Health and Safety advisor your duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with site compliance in relation to relevant Health and Safety Legislation and all guidelines and legislation, providing practical assistance as required, along with monitoring and administration of documentation and reports.
  • Support the business in minimising and managing risks, ensuring compliance adherence, and improving operations for our employees, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Manage and review documentation such as COSHH, Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures, and Toolbox Talks, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and conducting reviews as required.
  • Ensure adherence to and expansion of compliance with key performance indicators (KPIs), including regular reporting to senior site managers, teams, and directors, alongside analysing incident and near-miss data to identify root causes and implement preventative actions.
  • Support the local team with accident/incident reporting, investigation and follow up actions, including near-miss and hazard reporting procedures, working to build a positive and pro-active H&S culture on a continuous improvement basis.
  • Contribute to IS045001 implementation and lead assigned tasks associated with the project, fostering a continuous improvement culture in H&S and compliance.
  • Take responsibility for all required site audits including process adherence, Health and Safety compliance, PAS110 certification and site environmental requirements.

The Person

You will be an experienced Health and Safety practitioner who has worked in a continuous process manufacturing environment. The role also requires qualification to a minimum level of NEBOSH National General Certificate, together with sound understanding of appropriate workplace legislation. Your experience will also include policy development, implementation and maintenance of accreditations and liaison with external regulatory bodies.

The successful candidate will require excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed decision-making capability. As a flexible and driven initiative-taker, your enthusiasm and diligence will be key in influencing the behaviours in this continually developing business.
